The way things will be

The last of our Christmas company left this afternoon. Don't get me wrong, I love my family, but they wear me out. Having between one and seven people in the house that don't live there is exhausting. I spent probably six hours baking on Monday. I made chocolate covered coffee beans for the first time ever. I don't like coffee, but I didn't think the chocolate covered beans were all that bad. I truly felt like I had to be "on" all the time. Hyper aware of what was going on in order to make sure everybody had everything that they needed and to keep my mom from totally stressing out. So what did I do today after everyone left? Lunch with one friend and shopping with another. Clearly I'm out of my mind.

One of the places I went shopping at was Target. Because I mean, how can you go shopping and not stop by Target, am I right? She got an ornament initial for what her last name will be after she gets married in May, and it made me remember doing some Christmas shopping with her last year shortly after she and her fiance started dating and she made a comment about how she'd have to get that if they got married. After some things that have happened over the last few weeks in my own life, it was a sweet reminder that sometimes, if you're lucky, things do turn out the way you want them to-the way you plan for them to.

Weird weekend

So many things have happened in the last six weeks since I stopped writing. Hopefully I'll be able to detail some of those things in the upcoming days.

The first weekend of the month, I went on a retreat one of my old youth leaders was leading. It was probably one of the weirdest things I have ever experienced. The best way I know how to explain it was that the whole weekend I felt like I had to completely engage with those around me. I said it felt like that awkward way of acting when a bunch of people are making something (a painting, food, pottery, etc.) and you have to compliment what everybody else is doing. There was also something about birthing a word. It made me understand why non-believers think Christians are so crazy. It was a weird, weird weekend.

The only thing that was good about it, really, is that there was ample quiet time and it really pushed me to spend legitimate time with God, something I hadn't done much of prior to that or since then either, really. I don't like that I do that, but I don't dislike it enough to make myself change it. I hate the predicament I'm in with that. The really bad part about that is that I'm pretty much supposed to keep on top of that stuff because of my job. My boss says we can only spiritually take our children as far as we are. I can't really take them very far.
